About The Grand Event Center

Established in 2005 by a local young couple, Buzz and Jessie Venhuizen. Buzz and Jessie were running and teaching a local dance group called The Lumberland Cloggers. Finding great success they found themselves completely out of room at their current dance studio which was located on their 20 acre home east of Mora, MN. Also at this time Buzz was a traveling Dee jay that did 30 or more wedding receptions all over the upper mid west. Buzz, now with two young boys at home along with his wife Jessie, was getting tired of traveling every weekend. With the growing problem of space for there dance group and Buzz wanting to stop his weekend traveling they decided now was the time to start there long standing dream of opening a building that could satisfy both those needs. They wanted to build the building large enough to host both their dance group and host different types of events. The dream was really put into motion in fall of 2004 when they found land that would host there building perfectly. After securing the land, deciding on a building plan that would fit there vision proved to be difficult so Buzz with his construction background decided to draw the plans himself. After many revisions it was ready to go to the architect. Ground was broke May 2005 with the finish deadline to be Oct. 1st due to there first event on the books. Construction went smooth and quick due to the great work done by K&H Construction. Oct. 1st, the doors opened for there first wedding reception that went off with out one single incident. In there first year they hosted over 40 events and have found running The Grand Event Center is hard but satisfying. As with any small business the first few years are the roughest but with Jessie leading the catering side of the business and Buzz leading the sales and Dee jay portion they meet in the middle handling all that the industry has to offer with great professionalism you would expect from a large corporation but still giving that personal touch of the small town business. Both are looking to the future and are seeing wonderful things ahead.
